SAFARI PACKING LIST
If this is your first time in Tanzania or safari , thin packing list below can help to be well prepared and comfortable during your adventure . But if you ended up forgetting to bring few things , don’t worry , you can still find some items in town before start your safari. Safari dress is casual and simple , does not require any special purchase . The emphasis should be on cool , loose and good coverage if you are sensitive to the sun .
- In some areas like Ngorongoro highlands , it can get quite chilly at night so be sure to bring warmer layers .
- It’s preferred that your daytime clothing be in neutral colors to blend in surrounding with the surroundings .
- In tsetse fly areas black and blue clothing is not recommended as the insects are attracted to this .
Please note , while camping you will not have access to electricity foe shavers or hair dryers. In hotels , you will occasionally find 24 volt AC/55 – Cycle with three pin square “BRITISH “ type sockets so you will need to bring an adaptor for your appliances .
In some camps you will have access to inverters to charge phone and cameras batteries only .
- Valid passport
- Tanzania visa , available at the airport during arrival . $ 100 dollar for US citizens and $ 50 for other countries passport holders payable in cash .
- Copy of flight itinerary .
- Copy of travel and / or medical evacuation insurance .
- Personal medical / dental insurance cards .
- Credit card ( visa and master card are most widely accepted )
- Cash in US dollars , bills must have been printed on 2004 or later .
NOTE THAT :Try to stay away from bright colors – khaki and other neutral colors tends to work well .
- Sweater or flees pullover to keep warm .
- Sturdy boots or sandals
- Sun hat
- Sun glasses
- T-Shirts or polo shirts , 3-5 depending on how often you want to change .
- Long sleeve shirts ( light weight )
- Shorts
- Long trousers ( light weight )
- Undergarments
- Sleep wear
- Socks
- Travel towel
- Light weight waterproof jacket ( May – Sep )
- Bathing suit , some lodges have pools .
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
- Camera and memory card
- Binocular
- Sunscreen
- Hand sanitizer and wet wipes
- Insects repellent
- Personal toiletries ( soap , eye drops , shampoo , tooth brush etc)
- Basic first aid kit and prescription medicines
- Flash light or head lamp
- Chargers and extra batteries for your camera and phone .
- Power adopter to fit the UK style electrical socket
- Bring soft luggage such as duffel bag , hiking pack or sports bag . These are ideal for packing into a safari vehicle. Hard suit case can often be difficult to fit into the vehicle .
- Bring your backpack to carry all your important items including travel documents , money , camera , medications and you should keep this pack with you all the times .
- Keep all your luxury items such as hair dryers / straighteners , expensive jewellery , make up and bulky toiletries to an absolute minimum.
- If you bring cash , devide it into different areas of your carry – on luggage , wallet and money belt just incase something happens to one of these carry items .
- Leave some space in your luggage for the all important souvenirs that you will probably buy .
- There are places where you can send packages home via DHL etc , however this can sometimes be an expensive option .
We advice that you bring at least few medication , even though our vehicle is equipped with first aid kit . Here are few examples of what you may bring but we recommend you to see your doctor for more advice
- Eye drops
- Moisturizer for treating sunburn
- Rubbing alcohol
- Pain killers
- Cold and flu medication
- Bandage and plasters
- Tweezers
